knit kit pouch

last week, i showed you the knitter’s bag i made for my friend shea. well, shea got a bonus pouch out of me just because she’s so awesome. and because there was a lot of extra fabric. [there is still about a half a yard, shea, so if you think of anything else you want, let me know!]

she actually came up with idea when we were picking out fabric together in joann’s. she wanted a little pouch to put her various stitch markers and small knitting tools inside. we looked at zippers, but they were all so long, so we left without the plan for me to make one.

when i discovered that you can shorten a zipper to whatever length you like, i decided to surprise shea and whip one up for her! it was only my second time working with a zipper, and my first was on a skirt i made for my sister when i was in high school. not only was i a little out of practice, but i just in general had no idea what i was doing. but that’s how i roll, i make things up as i go!

i figured it out for the most part, and once again, it’s not perfect, but it’ll do the job!

here’s the matching pair!

this is a cute little knitter’s bag for my friend shea. i gave you a sneak preview last week and now it’s finally finished. i’m pretty happy with it.

the goal of the bag is to keep their kitties from attacking shea’s yarn in that oh-so-iconic way. i think it will serve her well!

you can’t see it super well in the picture, but yes i did add piping to the bottom seam-i told you i was addicted. : )

did you doubt me? were you worried that i’d fallen off the crafting cliff? i’m sure you really didn’t care, but i have a craft update for you anyway!

i’ve been crafty as usual, i’ve just been lazy about getting pictures up to complete my crafty blog posts. sorry! i don’t have any completed projects from this week, but i have some progress pictures.

DSCN1308

this is almost finished, it’s a knitter’s bag for my dear friend, shea. it’s not perfect, but i think it coming along nicely, you’ll likely see the finished project next friday!

speaking of knitting, can anyone guess what this might be?

DSCN1309

i’ll give you a hint, it’s from the book i just finished reading: a knitter’s home companion.

still no clue? i guess you just have to wait and see!

happy crafting, and sorry for the late posts!

cute ‘dry-erase’ board

i can’t remember where i saw this, but i think it was in real simple. i immediately fell in love with idea.

the idea is simple:

  1. take a lightweight frame with glass
  2. put cute light-colored fabric or scrapbook paper in the frame
  3. hot glue* heavy duty magnets on the back
  4. stick it to your fridge

wah-la! or not.

they look cute up there ^ but on my fridge, well, this is what they look like.

i guess i need much stronger magnets. i’ll probably try again soon.

*you don’t necessarily have to use hot glue for the magnets, but as i’m mildly obsessed with hot glue, that’s what i did.

piping!

okay, so i’ve found a new obsession. and it’s piping. yay! thanks to a cousin craft day on wednesday, i officially know how to pipe. and no, i’m not talking about plumbing, although i wish i knew how to rid our shower of the standing water…

i made a pillow case as you can see above. it’s awesome, as you can see above. what makes it so awesome? you guessed it, the piping!

i especially love the corners, it looks so professional, if i do say so myself.

photo taken by the amazing sarah nebel!

a friend from veritas asked me to create a baby bear hat for her mini-clients. she is a local family photographer and also just an adorable person. i was so honored by her request-it’s my first crafting “job.” thanks, sarah, for encouraging me to continue towards my dream of selling my wares! : )

you need to check out her photography, so cute!

this is another pattern i created myself, which is really good for me to keep practicing. it was difficult to get the sizing correct as i got a lot of different information on head sizing. in the end, this hat is about 15″ around, which is a pretty good size for 6-9 months.

i’m in love with the cream color and the adorable little ears. i can’t wait to see what sarah does with it!

if you’ve been reading my blog from the beginning you, may remember this blog and my beautiful handmade home decor for our tiny little one bedroom apartment.

for those of you that are too lazy to click on the link or you didn’t even notice there was a link there, here is a picture of the craft i re-crafted this week:

i love trees.

slouch hat

Crafts 006

i have been looking for a cute slouchy hat pattern all winter long and i finally found it! just in time for the apparent snowpocalypse we just had, i might add. i found the pattern here. i love that you can see the cables so well on her green hat. i don’t think black would be my first choice for a color in the future. but at least my hat goes with everything!

i would also like to point out that this is the first thing i’ve knitted for myself. it’s only a little fun to show it off and feel cute at the same time.

i have cute craft ideas other than knitting, but i need to get the crafternoon girls together to accomplish some of them! maybe there will be some variety next week. : )

in other crafting news…my mind has been going crazy with business ideas. i’m so interested and quickly becoming passionate about starting a craft business. i have so many ideas, so many projects…i just don’t know where to start! if you have any ideas about what you’d love to see in the craft business, please, let me know!

ps: i need a new head model.

newborn hat

contrary to popular belief, we are not trying to get pregnant in order to fill these shoes. i swear, everyone wants a little dimpled redheaded alsbury baby these days. okay, so maybe i want one too…but, no! we’re content right now. : )

Blog 011

anyway…i made the booties and this teeny tiny hat for veritas‘ first and favorite newborn, hudson michael! doesn’t the duck make a cute hat model?

mike and alicia are in our connection group and i thought it would be just adorable if their sweet baby boy had a some hand-knit winter gear! although, when i dropped off dinner and the gift last night, i looked at hudson’s head and i think he’s already a little too big for the hat. whoops! alicia, you’ll have to let me know how/if it fit! : )

pictured below is the matching set:

aren’t these just the cutest? i found the basic pattern here. i think the “moccasin” style is stinking aborable, but my mom pointed out that most moms like to have simple clothing that will go with a lot. she’s so wise. so i used a neutral “boot” color and a blue.

it was a challenge working with such tiny needles, but now i’m that much more practiced at knitting.
